David Ornstein of The Athletic has been discussing the future of the Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson during a recent edition of the Ask Ornstein feature on the Tifo Football YouTube channel.

With the Gunners having added Willian to their squad this summer, it could be argued that the Englishman has fallen further down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. Last season, Nelson made 22 appearances for the first-team in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing his teammates with three assists (as per Transfermarkt).

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

According to the journalist, it appears the club have taken that into consideration and are now willing to let the player leave the club on loan in search of regular football, here is what Ornstein had to say:

“My information is that Reiss Nelson is now available to leave Arsenal in this current transfer window on a loan basis. I think it’s at a very early stage of the process, so I’m not sure conversations are taking place just yet with interested parties and I’m sure there will be a lot of them. So it’s likely that he will go away, get game time, and then hopefully for him and Arsenal, come back to the club a better and more experienced player. Watch this space on a loan move for Reiss Nelson.”

TIF Thoughts…

With both Willian and Nicolas Pepe also competing for the one position on the right flank, in our view, game time will be far more difficult to come by for the 20-year-old this season and therefore, a loan move away could be the best solution for all parties.

Ornstein stressed that we are ‘at a very early stage of the process’ and so it is not yet clear where he may end up but we agree with the journalist when he says he expects there to be ‘a lot of’ interested parties now that it is known the £11.25m-rated winger is available.
