Arsenal writer Chris Davison has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the London club making a transfer move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

This comes after Davison recently made an appearance on The Chronicles of a Gooner Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Mikel Arteta’s side at the moment.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

After it was recently reported by football journalist Raphael Boucher that Arsenal are preparing an offer to Palace for Zaha that could see a current Gunners player going the other way as part of the deal, Davison had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I’m not surprised that the Zaha links are coming back again, but for me, he just wouldn’t fit in at the moment. I mean, obviously, if [Reiss] Nelson goes the other way as part of the deal, then it makes a bit more sense, but, you know, we’ve got quite a few wingers here at the moment and [Nicolas] Pepe didn’t even start last weekend, because obviously we’ve got Willian here now as well.

“Where would he fit in, would be my question. If we were short on numbers going forward and we needed some more wingers then yeah, absolutely, it would make total sense, but yeah, I just don’t see this one happening.”

Zaha made his senior debut for Palace back in 2010 when he was just 17 years old. Since then, the winger has gone on to make a total of 363 appearances for the Eagles in which he has scored 58 goals and provided 70 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £39.6 million, was Palace’s standout performer in their 2019/20 Premier League campaign, earning himself a season rating of 6.98/10 for his performances in the 38 league appearances he made for Roy Hodgson’s side (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

As Davison mentioned on the podcast, Arsenal have got their fair share of wingers in their squad at the moment, so perhaps a move for Zaha may not be particularly necessary for the club at present.

However, it will be interesting to see if the club do decide to make a move for Zaha in the coming weeks and offer one of their current wingers, like Reiss Nelson as Davison mentioned on the podcast, to sweeten the deal for Palace.
