The (late) summer transfer window is one of the most exciting times for football fans. Despite this summer being a little different to those we have experienced before, Premier League clubs have been busy bringing in players for the new season. In terms of the level of transfer activity, Chelsea have been leading the way in the Premier League. They have added German international striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig at the expense of £47 million. With electric pace and finishing ability, Werner has all the attributes to succeed in English football but much will depend on how quickly he can gel with his new teammates, one of which is Kai Havertz.

The 21 year old arrived at Stamford Bridge for a fee of £72 million from Bayer Leverkusen. Havertz can play as an attacking midfielder or forward but may need a little time to adjust to life in the Premier League. However, considering the transfer fee involved in the move, Havertz maybe under pressure to start delivering the goods immediately.

Not every top transfer has to be expensive and a great example is James Rodríguez. The Colombian international moved from Real Madrid to Everton on a free transfer and the early signs are that it will be tremendous business by The Toffees. Rodríguez is hugely experienced at the highest level and has the creativity to create chances against the toughest defences in the Premier League.

Another transfer that can be considered a bargain is the move of Thiago from Bayern Munich to Liverpool. Fans have often felt that the Premier League champions have missed a bit of creativity in central midfield against well organised opponents and Thiago could be the missing link. At £27 million, Thiago comes with a wealth of experience in the Champions League having won the trophy with Bayern Munich last season and his passing quality is exceptional.

Gareth Bale has returned to the Premier League from Real Madrid having secured a loan move to former club Tottenham Hotspur. Bale enjoyed a hugely successful time with Real Madrid, winning the Champions League four times and twice scoring in the final. Now at the age of 31, Bale may not be the force he was a few years ago but there is no doubt he has the quality to both score and create goals for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season.

Other transfers worth keeping an eye on during the 2020/21 Premier League campaign include central defender Gabriel, who has joined Arsenal from Lille, striker Ollie Watkins who has moved to Aston Villa from Brentford, left back Ben Chilwell who has joined Chelsea from Leicester City, Timothy Castagne who has signed for Leicester City from Atalanta, Nathan Aké who has transferred to Manchester City from Bournemouth, Donny van de Beek who has joined Manchester United from Ajax and Callum Wilson who has moved to Newcastle United from Bournemouth.
