James Marriott and Dom Howson discussed all the latest goings-on with Sheffield Wednesday on the most recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast and the pair spent some time talking about the possibility of Atdhe Nuhiu returning to Hillsborough for the 2020/21 campaign during the show.

After originally joining the Owls on a free transfer back in July 2013, Nuhiu went on to make 277 appearances for the Yorkshire-based club, scoring 50 goals and providing 27 assists during his time at Hillsborough.

Nuhiu was described as a ‘lovable rogue’ and a ‘cult hero’ by The Athletic’s Nancy Frostick after the 31-year-old’s Owls contract expired back in July and the Kosovo international is yet to find a new club following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

During this recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast, Howson shared his thoughts on the possibility of the forward making a return to Hillsborough and the journalist seemed to believe that this wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Owls, saying: “I’m thinking, right now, with the situation Wednesday are in, that I would certainly offer something to Atdhe Nuhiu for the season and look to bring him back.

“He’s not the long-term answer, we know that, but I think as a valuable squad player, someone who already knows the ropes at Wednesday, has been a good servant to the club, he’s held in high regard by everyone at Wednesday, he’s popular around the dressing room, he’s good with the young players, he’s someone that, I think, very importantly – this never gets mentioned about Atdhe Nuhiu – he never gets injured, he’s always there, he will be available for an entire season.

“To be honest with you, I’m a bit surprised he’s not been snapped up by somebody else, either abroad or even in the Championship.

“I’m thinking bottom-half Championship clubs, as a striking option, free transfer, guy who rarely gets injured, I’m thinking Atdhe Nuhiu – he ticks a lot of boxes, really, doesn’t he?”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Howson had to say, it’s clear that he believes the Owls would do well to bring Nuhiu, who is valued at £360k (as per Transfermarkt), back to Hillsborough for the 2020/21 campaign.

Considering that he was the club’s third-highest league goalscorer last term and both of the two players who scored more league goals than him – Steven Fletcher and Jacob Murphy – are not currently part of the Owls’ squad for this season, we feel that Nuhiu would represent a reliable attacking option for Wednesday and we agree with Howson’s statement that the 31-year-old could prove to be a “valuable squad player” for the Owls if they do manage to strike a deal to bring him back to Hillsborough.
