On the latest edition of the Singing The Blues podcast, Dom Howson and James Marriott discussed all of the latest news concerning Sheffield Wednesday and they spent some time talking about Dominic Iorfa during the show.

Iorfa joined the Owls on a permanent basis back in January 2019 and in his first full season as a Wednesday player, the 2019/20 campaign, the 25-year-old centre-back played the second-highest number of league minutes of any Wednesday player and was named as the Owls’ Player of the Year at the end of the campaign.

To kick off this week's EFL quiz, who is the top goalscorer in the Championship following game week three?

As for this season, Iorfa has played every minute in the league for Garry Monk’s side and he has earned an impressive overall WhoScored rating of 7.01 in the Championship this term, making him the Owls’ fourth-highest rated player in the league at present.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Iorfa has proven to be a valuable player for the Yorkshire-based club of late and so it might be understandable why he has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Watford as they look to earn promotion back to the Premier League just one season after being relegated.

During this recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast, Howson shared his thoughts on the likelihood of the player being sold and shared what he believes the 25-year-old defender’s price tag should be, saying: “£8m has to be the starting point. In the modern market, for me, actually, I’d probably say he’s somewhere between £10-15m.

“When you’re talking about saleable assets in this Sheffield Wednesday team, he’s at the top, he’s at the top of a pretty short list, I would say.

“When you’ve got no money coming in from crowds, no revenue whatsoever, if you then get that offer on the table, a big offer, for one of your star prized assets, you can’t really ignore that, or you certainly would have to think very hard about it, wouldn’t you?

“If something happens with Dominic Iorfa, if there is really strong interest and Wednesday get a bid, they have to think long and hard about it, of course they do, they wouldn’t be doing their jobs properly if they didn’t but that’s not something to worry about until there is that legit interest and there’s something concrete there and I’m not so sure there is right now, but that could change very quickly.”

Would you sell Iorfa for £8m?

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Howson had to say, he clearly believes that the Owls shouldn’t even think about selling Iorfa for less than £8m, with the journalist sharing that he believes the defender is probably worth between £10-15m.

Judging by what Howson had to say, it also seems as though there hasn’t yet been an official bid for Iorfa, despite reports linking him with a move to Watford.

Considering that Wednesday are currently at the bottom of the Championship table on -8 points due to their points deduction, it may be fair to say that they are fighting an uphill battle this season and will likely need as strong of a squad as possible to avoid relegation.

So, with that in mind, we feel it may not be wise for the Owls to sell their Player of the Year for the previous campaign. However, if their valuation of the player is met, then it will be interesting to see if they do entertain the bid.
