Dom Howson and James Marriott discussed all things Sheffield Wednesday on the most recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast and during the show, Howson shed some light on the Owls’ pursuit of Cardiff City’s Callum Paterson.

As per WalesOnline, Cardiff City boss Neil Harris recently confirmed that Paterson’s impending move from the Bluebirds to Sheffield Wednesday is “close” to being completed and during this recent edition of the Singing The Blues podcast, Howson and Marriott dedicated some time to this potential deal.

To kick off this week's EFL quiz, who is the top goalscorer in the Championship following game week three?

When asked for his thoughts on Paterson’s potential move to Hillsborough, Howson said: “It would appear Wednesday are pushing for a permanent deal for Callum Paterson.

“He hasn’t played for Cardiff this season, he’s been on the bench. It’s the profile of the player and it’s quite easy to understand why Garry Monk would want to bring him in, in the sense that he’s 25, he can play multiple positions, the last few years he’s played up front a lot for Cardiff and he’s done the business, he’s done pretty well upfront.

“He’s not a prolific goalscorer but what he is, is he’s a unit. He is a big unit of 6’2″ physical presence, which is exactly what Wednesday need.

“I think that if the price is right then it could be a good piece of business for Wednesday.”

Would Paterson be a good signing for Wednesday?

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Howson had to say, it seems as though he believes that it would be a wise move for the Owls to sign Paterson.

As Howson explained, Paterson is a very versatile player, having played in as many as 10 different positions in his career, as per Transfermarkt, and this level of versatility may be a big reason why the Yorkshire-based club would want to sign the £2.52m-rated man, as he could potentially provide them with cover in a variety of different positions.

Should this deal get done, then hopefully for the Owls, Howson is right and Paterson proves to be “exactly what Wednesday need.”
