Birmingham City manager Aitor Karanka spent some time discussing the possibility of the Blues signing more players in the current transfer window during his latest pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s EFL Cup clash with Cambridge United on this weekend.

So far in the current transfer window, the Blues have signed a total of six players. They have signed the quintet of George Friend, Jon Toral, Ivan Sanchez, Andres Prieto and Adam Clayton on free transfers, while they have also added former West Bromwich Albion winger Jonathan Leko to their squad for the 2020/21 campaign for a transfer fee of £990k.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

During his pre-match press conference ahead of Birmingham City’s season opener against Cambridge United, Karanka was asked: “Are you still looking for new players? Are you hopeful that you will be able to add to your squad?”

The manager replied to this question by saying: “As a manager, I think until the last minute in the transfer market, I will be open to receive players, but again, the right players.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by Karanka’s comments during this recent pre-match press conference, it appears that the Birmingham manager is not prepared to rule out making any more additions to his squad in the current transfer window.

The EFL transfer window is set to remain open fully until 5th October, with ‘an extended two-week domestic only window’ set to be in place until 16th October.

The 2020/21 Championship campaign will begin on 12th September and by the time both the international and domestic only windows are closed, the Blues will have played their first four games of the 2020/21 league season.

Given his comments on the possibility of signing more players during this recent press conference, should Karanka’s side fail to hit the ground running this term, we feel it won’t be too surprising if the Blues do dip back into the transfer market to bolster their squad whilst they still have the chance.
