The Sunderland Echo journalist Phil Smith has been discussing the recent transfer link between Sunderland and Danny Graham.

As stated by Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson on Saturday, talks have been held with Graham over a transfer to the Stadium of Light (per Sunderland Echo).

On the 35-year-old frontman, Parkinson said: “We want to get in another forward and he’s one we’ve spoken to.

“It’s an important position as everyone knows and tight games can be settled by that one, clinical finish.

“The more strikers you have in the building, the better chance you’ve got.”

The £428k-rated forward has previously played for the Black Cats and he bagged just one goal in 42 appearances for them (per Transfermarkt).

In July, Graham was released by Blackburn Rovers and, therefore, would be available to Sunderland on a free transfer.

So, in the latest episode of The Roar Podcast, Smith shared his thoughts on the transfer link with Graham.

He said: “I mean, we’ll wait and see on that one, again, it’s an interesting one, isn’t it? Sunderland, realistically, in terms of the money and squad size, can only bring in one more striker.

“So, you don’t want to bring in a striker now and then in three weeks’ time discover that this player who you’d thought was unavailable is now suddenly available for a loan or what have you.

“So, I got the impression, maybe [Parkinson’s] playing his cards close to his chest and maybe in ten minutes’ time Graham will be holding a scarf and we’ll look daft recording this podcast, but he just gave the impression that he was going to take a little bit of time to think about things before committing towards any more deals.

“Now, how long that’ll be… Could be a day, could be two days, could be a week. We’ll find out but he did just give that impression that he was very much weighing things up.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes that Parkinson will have a little bit of thinking time before committing to signing Graham.

Would you be happy if Danny Graham signed for Sunderland?

No, he's not good enough

Yes, he's a good player

With the striker now 35 years of age and having only netted four goals in 38 Championship appearances for Blackburn during the most recent season (per Transfermarkt), perhaps some thinking time on the move is a good idea.
