Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, Peter Martin and Alan Rough suggested that Rangers had ‘dodged a bullet’ by missing out on the signing of Florian Kamberi.

Kamberi, who joined Hibernian from Grasshopper Club Zurich in a £117,000 deal back in 2018, spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Ibrox, where he scored one goal and provided two assists in nine appearances for the club.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Rangers top goalscorers quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who is Rangers' current top Scottish Premiership goalscorer this season?

It had been reported that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard had sanctioned a ‘near six-figure’ sum for the 25-year-old’s permanent move this summer, however, it is claimed that Kamberi rejected the reported two-year deal offered to him by Gers, and instead signed for Swiss Super League side St. Gallen.

However, on the subject of Kamberi, Martin and Rough stated on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show that the club missing out on the £630,000-rated man could actually be a good thing for Rangers, as they believe he would not have got anywhere near the first team.

Martin said: “Steven Gerrard is just getting his teeth into the type of players that he thinks will be starters, almost certainly, in the side. He’s obviously looking at Jermain Defoe, the [Alfredo] Morelos situation continues.

“He won’t be getting Florian Kamberi, he’s joined the Swiss side St Gallen. Just a personal opinion, I think Rangers dodged a bullet in signing Kamberi, I didn’t think he was Rangers class.”

Before Rough added: “I think Kamberi would have been third or fourth-choice in the Rangers setup, and obviously the boy is not prepared to be third or fourth-choice, he thinks he’s much better than that.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the fact that Kamberi scored 30 goals and provided 13 assists during his time at Hibs, it is clear that the striker is decent at Scottish Premiership level.

However, with Rangers currently owning both Defoe, who has scored 25 goals and provided eight assists in 52 games for Gers, and Alfredo Morelos, who has scored 77 goals and provided 30 assists in 138 games for the club, it would indeed seem as if Kamberi is some way off the level of Rangers’ current attacking options.

In addition to this, with Rangers signing both Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe over the past few days, it would indeed seem as if Kamberi could have found himself well down the pecking order at Ibrox.
