Speaking on The Totally Scottish Football Show, JJ Bull raved about Rangers’ signing of Kemar Roofe, comparing the player to one of the stars of Ligue 1.
Roofe joined Rangers in a £4.5 million deal from RSC Anderlecht earlier this week, after the 27-year-old scored seven goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances for the Belgian club.
Prior to his spell in Belgium, Roofe made 122 appearances for Leeds United, scoring 33 goals and providing 14 assists.
Following the forward’s return to the United Kingdom, JJ Bull raved about the 27-year-old on the latest episode of The Totally Scottish Football Show, drawing similarities between the player and Lyon star, Memphis Depay.
He said: “He’s quite classy on the ball. He’s one of these players, like a lot of these young English players that come through, who has a bit of skill about them, they’re really clever off the ball, they know when to touch it on and that sort of stuff.
“From what I’ve seen from Roofe, [he’s a] really tidy little player. Really clever, clever touches and he reads the play really well, anticipates things. There’s one goal he scores for Anderlecht – the kind of thing that I think would attract Rangers to him – the ball comes into him from his left, he’s on the outside of the box, his first touch on his right foot takes it away from the defender, wins the space and bends it into the bottom corner.
“He can play in wide areas and he likes to drop into space – he’s more like Memphis Depay at Lyon. He plays as a striker quite a lot but he withdraws and goes wide. But I’d say he is definitely going to be a straight nine when he plays.”

As such, it would certainly seem as if Bull rates Roofe highly, and with it looking likely that Rangers’ current star striker Alfredo Morelos could be leaving the club sooner rather than later, the new signing could prove to be a pivotal piece of business for Steven Gerrard this summer.
