Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, Hugh MacDonald stated his belief that it does not look like Alfredo Morelos’ move from Rangers to Lille will happen this summer.
Since joining Rangers back in 2017, Morelos has gone on to become an integral part of the Rangers side, scoring 79 goals and providing 31 assists in 140 appearances for the club.
As a result of his remarkable rise in Glasgow, the 24-year-old has been tipped to leave Scottish football this summer, with reports even suggesting that he had agreed terms with Ligue 1 side Lille.
However, the French side looks set to sign Jonathan David from Gent, meaning that any potential move for Morelos now looks considerably less likely.
MacDonald stated his belief that the striker’s move to France does indeed appear very unlikely at present.
He said: “Well, the word in the trade is the Lille thing has cooled dramatically and they’re looking at other targets. I think, both of us have dealt with transfer stories for many years and we know that can change, particularly if other targets move out of range.
“I think it’s fair to say that Morelos is not now a priority for Lille, that is certainly the soundings I’m getting. Remember there [are] many other clubs out there, the transfer window has got many a week to run, it’s going to run until October.
“There’ll be dominoes falling at various other places and that will impact on Alfredo Morelos’ future. At one point we thought he might be moving to Lille within days, I don’t think that’s on the horizon, now.”
TIF Thoughts…
As such, it would appear that MacDonald is of the belief that, while Morelos’ mooted switch to Lille does not look likely at present, that the striker could still leave the club this summer in a separate deal.
