Andy McGowan and David Edgar discussed all the latest Rangers news on the most recent edition of the Heart and Hand podcast and during the show, the pair spent some time talking about Jamie Barjonas.

Barjonas has gone on three separate loan spells away from Rangers thus far in his career. Most recently, he spent from January until the end of April on loan at Partick Thistle, making five appearances in Scotland’s second-tier for them during his time at the club.

The Rangers academy product has been linked with another loan move away from the club recently. Reports have claimed that Burton Albion, Ayr United and Orange County SC are all interested in the 21-year-old midfielder, while Football Insider has linked the Rangers man with a move to Barrow.

McGowan shared his thoughts on the reports linking Barjonas with another loan move away from Ibrox during the latest edition of the Heart and Hand podcast, saying: “When I see he was going to Barrow and that, well, who gains out of that? Because I don’t think Barjonas gets much out of going to Barrow and certainly, it kind of spells the end of his time with us, because he’s not going to develop any further playing for Barrow.”

McGowan went on to share some praise for Barjonas and what he brings to the table as a footballer, before going on to say: “I’m a wee bit surprised, as you are David, that he’s not figuring a wee bit higher in terms of the squad.”

TIF Thoughts…

While McGowan seems to believe that Barjonas could have something to offer Rangers as a first-team option, he has made just nine appearances for the Gers’ senior squad thus far in his career and he hasn’t made a single senior appearance for the Glasgow-based club since the 2017/18 season, so it mightn’t be too shocking to see him being linked with another loan move away from Ibrox.

Considering that McGowan does seem to hold the player in high regard, it may be understandable why he appears to be disappointed that he is being linked with a loan move to a team that are set to compete in England’s fourth tier next season, as it may be unlikely that he will develop to a high enough standard to feature for Rangers while playing at that level, as McGowan explained.
