Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer – The Football Show, Alan Rough discussed the situation surrounding Rangers striker, Alfredo Morelos.
Since joining Rangers from HJK Helsinki in what was a £1.08 million deal back in 2017, Morelos has gone on to prove a massive hit at Ibrox, scoring 79 times and providing 31 assists over his 142 appearances for the club.
Last season, the 24-year-old scored 29 times and provided 10 assists over his 47 appearances in all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side, helping the club to achieve a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership, as well as reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.
These performances caught the attention of Ligue 1 side Lille, who were said to be interested in making a move for the striker, with Sky Sports even reporting that the player had agreed personal term with the club.
However, the French side then signed Jonathan David, and it was reported that they had cooled their interest in Morelos.
The latest in the transfer saga of Morelos saw Gerrard drop the striker from the club’s fixture against Kilmarnock after the 24-year-old asked Rangers to ‘accept a bid of around £18m from Lille’, with the Gerrard stating that he was ‘disappointed the player has had his head turned’ and ‘doesn’t look himself’.
And, Alan Rough, speaking on PLZ Soccer – The Football Show, stated that he believes the striker has got to go this summer.
He said: “I said three weeks ago he’s got to go. You can’t have somebody swanning about the dressing room that’s not giving 100%. We’ve all been there, when there has been a player like that at a particular club.
“It just alienates everybody else, somebody walking about thinking they’re better than everybody else. So, he’s got to go.”

From Rough’s comments, then, it would certainly appear as if he is of the belief that Rangers have to sell Morelos sooner rather than later for the good of the team.
In addition to this, with Gerrard leaving Morelos out of the squad for the club’s last league game, it would probably make financial sense to sell the player too, rather than him simply just wasting away in the reserves, and slipping out of potential buyers’ minds.
