Podcaster Stuart Dougan has shared that he thinks Celtic will sign a young winger in the current transfer window.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

The Hoops sold Scott Sinclair to Preston North End back in January and Maryan Shved has been loaned out to Belgian club KV Mechelen. Another winger, in Mikey Johnston, has undergone surgery and Neil Lennon has confirmed that he is out for the next few weeks.

Dougan declared that he believes signing a young winger could potentially provide the Hoops with an alternative to Mohamed Elyounoussi or could provide them with an option for the right-wing spot.

Do you think Celtic need to sign a winger this summer?

Yes, we need a winger

Yes, we need a winger

We don't need a winger

We don't need a winger

He said: “I think Celtic are going to sign some winger on loan, like a young exciting winger that maybe fits the profile of [Atletico Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme], not necessarily him, but someone like that, because I think you’ve got Mikey Johnston – they said he’s about five weeks away or six weeks away after his surgery, it’d be great if he can stay fit and give you an alternative to Elyounoussi.

“You don’t really have that option on the right. We’d all be in agreement that [Ryan] Christie’s not really it. You’re not going to get the best out of Christie there. It is going to lead to the team being a bit unbalanced.”

TIF Thoughts…

As things stand, Elyounoussi is Celtic’s only natural option for the left-wing position, since Johnston is out of action. Meanwhile, James Forrest happens to be the only natural right-wing option as well – even though Ryan Christie has played there once this season.

So there is clearly a lack of depth in these positions. With Celtic looking to win their tenth Premiership title in a row in the current campaign, they may need depth in those positions if they want to win the league. So signing a winger this summer will make a lot of sense for the Bhoys.
