Podcaster Hamish Carton has recently been talking about Ryan Christie and his performance in Celtic’s recent Premiership win over Dundee United.

Carton was recently hosting the latest episode of The Grand Auld Podcast and the panel discussed many issues surrounding the Parkhead club.

One of these topics was Celtic’s 1-0 win over Dundee United, and, in particular, Carton talked about Christie and gave his verdict about the Scotsman’s performance at Tannadice.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Christie had started the game on the right-wing and Olivier Ntcham had started in the attacking midfield spot. Mohamed Elyounoussi started on the left. James Forrest also came on later in the game. Odsonne Edouard started as the striker but it was Albian Ajeti who grabbed a late goal that proved to be the winner (as per WhoScored).

When talking about Christie, Carton said that while the midfielder was trying to do things, none of the three behind Edouard impressed too much.

He said: “I don’t think he was our worst player yesterday, and I think the one thing you can say about Christie – and you can even say this about the game at Kilmarnock where we were even poorer – was that he at least tries and he’s the one who gets shots away. I don’t know whether that’s just because he’s the one who decides to take daft shots from 30 yards – [there were] certainly a few yesterday that I thought he could have passed.

What do you think is Christie's best position?

“In a team that’s maybe not hitting the shot when they could, sometimes it’s good to have a guy like that. I think all the problems about where you play Christie, where you play Forrest and where you play Ntcham would all be solved if they were playing well. And I don’t think any of the three of them are playing well or certainly played well [on Saturday].”

TIF Thoughts…

Christie wasn’t exactly playing in his preferred position on Saturday and while he has made four appearances in all competitions this season, three appearances have come when he has played in the attacking midfield position.

He couldn’t score or assist against Dundee United but while playing in the attacking midfield spot, he has contributed to three goals in as many games.

And, while Christie didn’t score on Saturday, he racked up an impressive rating of 8.55, so while the 25-year-old’s best position is the attacking midfield spot, he might be able to do a decent job on the right-wing as well.
