Celtic podcaster Chris Sermanni has recently been talking about Vasilis Barkas and how he has performed in his time at Parkhead so far.

Sermanni was a guest on the latest episode of the Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed many issues involving the Parkhead club during the show. One thing that Sermanni talked about was Barkas and how the Greek goalkeeper has done in his stint at Celtic so far.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Barkas joined Celtic from AEK Athens this summer for a fee of £4.50 million and he has made three appearances for the Bhoys so far. Barkas is also currently valued at £4.50m according to Transfermarkt.

Sermanni recently talked about Barkas and he sounded as if he’s yet to be convinced by the abilities of the Greek goalkeeper.

He said: “I said this in the reaction and I said it before – I still don’t know if Barkas is a good ‘keeper. He’s done everything that he needs to do well so far. His handling is pretty good. He can move the ball off quick, but he’s not dealt with a serious shot in the entire time [that] he has been here.”

TIF Thoughts…

In the current campaign, Barkas has played 270 minutes in all competitions for the Bhoys and has kept a couple of clean sheets already. He has picked up an overall Whoscored rating of 6.34 from his two Premiership appearances so far, which isn’t too promising at all.

He earned a rating of 5.95 against Kilmarnock and earned a rating of 6.72 against Dundee United recently. That is a reflection of the fact that his performances might need to improve.

The Hoops are chasing their 10th Premiership title in a row this season and considering that Lennon has confirmed that Barkas will be his first-choice goalkeeper this term, the 26-year-old settling in quickly and performing better could prove to be vital for the Bhoys.
