Journalist Alison McConnell has recently been talking about potential Celtic transfers and she made a claim about the club’s links with a move for Caleb Ekuban.

McConnell was a guest on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues surrounding Scottish football. They also gave their verdict about some potential Celtic transfers and McConnell began talking about Celtic’s links with a move to sign the former Leeds United striker Ekuban. She didn’t have a positive verdict about it.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

It was recently reported by Turkish outlet Sporx that Trabzonspor have accepted a bid of €8 million (£7.2 million) from Celtic. They claim that the striker will undergo a Parkhead medical in the next ‘two to three days’.

McConnell talked about this rumour and she believes that there isn’t enough ‘traction’ in this piece of information for it to be considered reliable.

She made a brief claim about it: “From the weekend on, I think there’s been at least half a dozen [players linked with a Celtic move]. The latest one today was the [Turkish Super Lig] striker, which I actually think there’s no real traction in.”

Is it pointless for Celtic to sign Ekuban?

TIF Thoughts…

Ekuban, who is currently valued at £4.95m, did impress in front of goal for Trabzonspor last season. He found the back of the net ten times in all competitions and even racked up 11 assists for his club (as per Transfermarkt).

Celtic though, have already signed Albian Ajeti on a permanent basis from West Ham United. As a result, they have at least four out and out striker options in the current first-team – even though Vakoun Bayo has left the club on loan to join French club Toulouse.

Their striker options include Ajeti, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Odsonne Edouard, while Jonathan Afolabi is also in their ranks, though he is yet to make his first appearance for the Hoops’ first-team.

So, signing another striker like Ekuban might not make too much sense unless one of Celtic’s current striking options leaves the club this summer.
