Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, Tam McManus claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is ‘well capable’ of playing for a side like Aston Villa or Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Since arriving at Rangers from HJK Helsinki in what was a £1.08 million deal back in 2017, Morelos has gone on to prove himself as an invaluable striker for the Glasgow club, scoring 77 goals and providing 30 assists in his 138 games.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Rangers top goalscorers quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who is Rangers' current top Scottish Premiership goalscorer this season?

However, over recent weeks there has been considerable speculation about the future of the 24-year-old at Ibrox, with some reports claiming that the player had even agreed on a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.

Despite this uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, Morelos started in Rangers’ first game of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season, providing the assist for Ryan Kent’s goal against Aberdeen which saw Gers enjoy a winning start to their campaign.

And, speaking on The Football Show, Tam McManus stated that Rangers should ‘hold on’ for a bid of £12-15 million for Morelos, as well as suggesting that he would not be out of his depth playing for a club like Aston Villa or Sheffield United.

He said: “I think he’s got something. In Europe, he’s been superb. I think he was the top goalscorer in the Europa League; he was scoring against big clubs and that was obviously bringing other clubs to [the] attention of what he was doing.

“I think he’s well capable of playing in the English Premier League, in the bottom half. I look at some of the [clubs] down there, your Aston Villas, Sheffield United, teams like that.

“I think Morelos would play for them. He’d definitely play for Aston Villa. So I think Rangers are well within their rights to hold out for £12-15 million because I do think eventually, he could be worth that.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the amount of goal Morelos has scored in Scotland, as well as in Europe – Morelos is currently the joint-top goalscorer in the Europa League, as McManus states – it is indeed not hard to imagine that the forward could do a job in the Premier League.

However, whether or not Rangers end up receiving £15 million for the £13.50 million-rated Morelos remains to be seen, but it is difficult to suggest that he wouldn’t be worth every penny of that.
