Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, presenter Peter Martin said that he thinks Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could stay at the club beyond the summer transfer window – and end up leaving in January of next year.

Having been Rangers’ top goalscorer in two of the last three Scottish Premiership seasons since he arrived at the club in 2017, it is evident how valuable Morelos, who was signed for £1.08 million, is to Steven Gerrard’s side.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Rangers top goalscorers quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who is Rangers' current top Scottish Premiership goalscorer this season?

The 24-year-old has returned remarkable numbers in terms of goal contributions, scoring 79 and providing 31 assists over his 141 appearances for the club, which, while it is handy for Rangers’ ambitions, is something of a double-edged sword.

This is seen when, as a result of his form, Lille were linked with the £13.5 million-rated frontman, with it even being reported that Morelos had agreed terms regarding a move to the Ligue 1 side.

However, the club now appear to have cooled their interest in the Rangers man after signing Jonathan David from Gent, leaving question marks as to whether Morelos will indeed be leaving Glasgow this summer.

Martin stated his belief that the 24-year-old may not end up leaving the club during this transfer window at all.

He said: “I think he could be out in the January transfer window. If you’re not getting your move now because nobody’s put the money up, then I don’t think he has to wait a year. I think he can get his head down and kick on until the January window.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would appear that Martin believes that Morelos could well remain at Rangers until January, on the condition that a club doesn’t offer Rangers their asking price for the striker this summer.

And considering the fact that the striker has already scored two goals and provided two assists over his three fixtures this season, having Morelos around for another few months could work out incredibly well for the club.
