On the latest episode of the BBC Sportsound podcast, Pat Bonner, James McFadden and Tom English have been reflecting on Celtic’s 6-0 win against KR Reykjavik, a result which secured Neil Lennon’s side’s spot in the Champions League second qualifying round.

A double from Mohamed Elyounoussi, alongside goals from Odsonne Edouard, Christoper Julien, Greg Taylor and an own goal secured an emphatic win for the Hoops, who will now face either Djurgardens or Ferencvaros, depending on the result of their match on Wednesday evening, in the second qualifying round next week (per BBC).

One topic of conversation on the podcast, was the performance of Elyounoussi in the win, which is unsurprising considering his brace. Here’s what English had to say about the 26-year-old’s performance against KR Reykjavik:

“Elyounoussi is, I think rightly the Man of the Match, and the one we should talk about because this guy is a very, very good player. When he came to Celtic last season, he might have tailed off towards the end of last season, but he was excellent when he came in. He has an awful lot to offer and that performance will fill Neil Lennon with an awful lot of heart because if he’s back to his best, Elyounoussi is a very, very dangerous player.”

TIF Thoughts…

English clearly thinks a lot of Elyounoussi and feels he can be an important player in Lennon’s side during the 2020/21 campaign. Fans will no doubt be hoping he can produce a similar performance to the one on Tuesday in the second qualifying round next week.

Do you think Elyounoussi will be crucial this season?

If the Norwegian international can improve on his contribution last season, when he contributed four goals and two assists in just 10 top-flight appearances (per Transfermarkt), then there seems no reason why the £8.55 million-rated man can’t be crucial towards Celtic’s success this season.
