Pundit Phil Egan has recently made a positive claim about Shane Duffy potentially joining Celtic this summer.

Egan was a guest on the latest episode of The Football Show on Off the Ball podcast and he discussed many potential transfers in English football. While doing that, he also discussed Brighton and Hove Albion defender Duffy and if he sees the 28-year-old heading to Celtic this summer.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

The Daily Mail recently reported that Duffy has held talks with Neil Lennon about a potential loan deal. The report also said that Duffy is ‘keen’ on playing in the Premiership for a season.

When talking about Duffy, Egan said that he can ‘almost imagine’ the Republic of Ireland man playing for the Hoops.

The pundit said: “You can definitely see Shane Duffy playing for Celtic. If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine there’s an Old Firm derby, corner comes in, Shane Duffy meets it, head, into the back of the net, crowd goes wild.

Will Duffy improve Celtic?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

I don't think so

“They’re a little bit short at centre half – [they’ve] obviously got [Kristoffer] Ajer and [Christopher] Jullien at the moment. Jullien’s the player that gave away the penalty against Kilmarnock last weekend, so [Duffy] certainly would be a good player for Celtic to bring in if it’s a season loan; he gets regular football.”

TIF Thoughts…

In the 2019/20 season, Duffy had made 19 Premier League appearances for Brighton and he had even started the first three games of the campaign. In that time, Duffy had picked up a rating of 6.71 and in the 2018/19 season, his rating stood at an impressive 7.11.

It shows that the 28-year-old can be a useful defender. Getting another centre-back in would allow Lennon to use a 3-5-2 system this season. Considering how the Hoops didn’t lose a single league game while playing in that shape last season, Duffy might make Celtic a better defensive unit.
