Pundit Alan Rough believes that Celtic fans have now begun to feel a bit ‘itchy’ because of the club’s activity in the transfer market.

Rough was recently a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues surrounding the Parkhead side. One thing that Rough focused on was Celtic’s approach in the transfer market and he believes that the club’s fans are getting ‘itchy’ about the lack of a striker signing.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Neil Lennon recently confirmed that the Hoops are looking to sign a striker in this summer’s transfer window to add ‘depth’ and ‘competition’ to the side. He also confirmed that the club has held talks with Steven Fletcher (Sky Sports News via BBC Sport).

Rough also believes that Celtic fans are against the idea of signing Fletcher now and they want a player who is close to his peak than someone who is ageing and perhaps past his prime.

Which striker will Celtic sign this summer?

When talking about the club’s handling of transfers, Rough said: “I think the Celtic supporters are beginning to get a wee bit itchy that it is taking so long to bring somebody in. They’d want to see a mark being put down. I think they want something.

“They are now, unfortunately for Steven Fletcher, they’re now saying that they don’t want him now. They want an established player who is on the up, rather than somebody at the end of their game. That’s what happens at football clubs when you start getting tagged with watching what money you’re spending here and there.”

TIF Thoughts…

While Celtic did play a 4-2-3-1 shape against Hamilton on Sunday, they used a 3-5-2 shape in the second half of the 2019/20 season. And they didn’t lose a single game in the league whenever they used that shape. If Neil Lennon does use this formation again, they might need four strikers – two as regulars and the other two as back-up options.

They currently have Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo as striker options, but the Ivorian is being linked with a move to St. Mirren. So if he does leave, the Hoops will indeed need another striker this summer. So it won’t be a surprise if Celtic fans are getting ‘itchy’ about the lack of a striker signing.
