Presenter Peter Martin has recently provided an update about the situation of Steven Fletcher and his potential move to Parkhead.

Martin was recently hosting the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues surrounding Scottish football. One thing Martin focused on was Celtic’s chase of Fletcher and if that deal is still happening.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

BBC Sport recently reported that Fletcher has been offered a one-year deal by the Hoops and that two Championship clubs have offered him longer-term deals.

The update that Martin has about Fletcher isn’t the most promising, but he feels that the move can still happen. He’s also offered some detail about the contract which was offered to the Scottish striker.

When talking about Fletcher, Martin said: “As far as the striker’s concerned, there was a deal on the table, I can tell you last night for Steven Fletcher. Between last night and this morning, that deal stalled.

Have Celtic missed out on Steven Fletcher?

“Now, it is not dead in the water. I know Neil Lennon has actually mentioned in the last few hours that he and Celtic are still in for Fletcher. That’s the point I’ve been making on Twitter today – Celtic are, for me, the masters at it. They balance the three or four deals, spin them around, see which one could potentially be the best money for them.

“I know Fletcher had a one-year deal offer with a few caveats to possibly unlock a second year. He is 33 years of age, but they still have two or three other players that they are involved in chatting with to see if they will come to Celtic.”

TIF Thoughts…

Neil Lennon has confirmed to Sky Sports News (via BBC Sport) that the striker position is an area that they are looking to ‘add in’ this summer. He said that they are doing so to add ‘squad depth and competition’ to the club’s first team.

The club has been linked with a move for both Ivan Toney and Albian Ajeti. A bid for Toney has been rejected, while Ajeti is taking time to make his decision. Talks are also said to be ongoing for former Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor.

So clearly, the Hoops are exploring their options and indeed want to bring a striker in. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
