Darren from Four Tims and a Podcast has been discussing the transfer link between the Hoops and Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney.

In a recent interview with the Peterborough Telegraph, as cited by the Daily Record, Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has stated that he expects that the English striker will leave the club this summer.

Supposedly, Toney has been ‘clear’ that he wants a move to the Premier League, however, Celtic may use Champions League football as a ‘carrot’ to seal the frontman’s arrival.

In the latest episode of Four Tims and a Podcast, Darren discussed the transfer link between the Hoops and Toney and aired his thoughts on it.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

He said: “Lennon said he’s after a striker, it would appear to be Toney but they need to get players in. We need to plan for the future.

“God forgive me, but if someone bids £50m for [Odsonne] Edouard – I mean, I think you could knock back £30m this summer, with everything that’s going on, but if Edouard turns around and says that he wants to leave, you need to have replacements there.

“Say we can nab Toney for – I mean, he’s out of contract [next summer] so there could be a deal to be done with him and his agent – but say you nab him for £6/7m, but [we sell Edouard] the week before?

“Could you imagine their Twitter if we get £30m for Edouard, they’ll be demanding £25m for Toney they’re that deluded. So, we just need to get players in.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what the pundit had to say, he clearly believes that Celtic should try and get the signing of Toney done as soon as possible.

That is seemingly due to the fact he is worried about how much Peterborough would demand for Toney if the Hoops tried to sign him after a hypothetical situation in which Edouard has already been sold.

Would you be happy if Celtic signed Ivan Toney from Peterborough?

No, he's not good enough

With “so many clubs” after the English striker in the words of his manager at Peterborough, it will be interesting to see where Toney does end up this summer.

After the 24-year-old striker netted a whopping 24 goals in 32 League One appearances for Peterborough during the 2019/20 season (per Transfermarkt), it is clear to see why so many clubs are keen.
