Journalist Michael Gannon has recently made a claim about Celtic’s Polish striker Patryk Klimala and his future at Parkhead.

Gannon was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and he talked about multiple issues surrounding the Parkhead club.

One thing that he focused on was the club’s 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros in the second qualifying of the UEFA Champions League. While talking about the game, Gannon gave his opinion about Klimala as well.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Klimala wasn’t even named on the bench by Neil Lennon for their game against the Hungarian outfit. Albian Ajeti was on the bench and he did come on in the second half to make an appearance (as per Whoscored).

While talking about the Polish striker, Gannon expressed his doubts about the player’s future in the long-term at Parkhead. Klimala is currently valued at £3.24 million.

Gannon said: “Patryk Klimala signed for £3.5 million, he signed in January and he’s not match-fit apparently. He’s played bits and bobs of games – I understand he’s not played a lot, but he’s not been injured.

“He’s been at the club for nine months. He’s come back like a monster from pre-season [and] from lockdown, looking lean and all that stuff.”

Has Klimala been a bad signing for Celtic?

“Scored [on] the first day of the season. Doesn’t start, no striker is fit and he’s not starting. That says a lot.

“I know he’s a young lad, not that young – he’s 21 years old, Polish international. If he’s not playing last night then I don’t know what his long-term future is.”

TIF Thoughts…

Klimala had joined Celtic in January 2020 for a fee of £3.60 million. He played only 15 minutes of Premiership football in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.

This season, he’s made four appearances in all competitions so far and while he did score against Hamilton in the first game of the campaign, he has played a total of 49 minutes only.

That might be a reflection of the idea that Lennon doesn’t trust him or he doesn’t see him as a first-team regular at Parkhead even though he has already scored in the league.

Keeping that in mind, it is understandable why Gannon has doubts about Klimala’s future and what his role at the club is.
