Journalist Alison McConnell has recently made a claim about Celtic’s chase of David Turnbull and how his signing could cause a ‘problem’ for the Hoops.

McConnell was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues involving Scottish football. One thing that they focused on was Celtic’s potential signing of Motherwell midfielder Turnbull and how he could settle in at Parkhead. McConnell believes that his signing could be a ‘problem’ for the Hoops.

Do you think signing Turnbull can be a problem for Celtic?

It has been reported by Sky Sports that while a fee for Turnbull is ‘close to being agreed’, the personal terms agreement between the midfielder and Celtic is ‘expected to be straightforward’. Football Insider had previously claimed that the Motherwell man is ‘very keen’ on a Parkhead move.

Alan Rough asked McConnell about where Turnbull would fit in at Celtic and the journalist described that as a ‘problem’ for the Bhoys.

She said: “This is a problem, he won’t walk in. I don’t think anyone at Celtic can be guaranteed a place to walk straight into the first team. It is there for him, that’s the challenge to go and try and put pressure on the likes of [Callum] McGregor and [Ryan] Christie in those central areas, I think.”

TIF Thoughts…

Turnbull was close to sealing a move to Celtic in the summer of 2019, but the move couldn’t go through as the medical revealed that the midfielder needed knee surgery.

Before that, Turnbull had impressed a lot in the 2018/19 season for Motherwell. He had made 31 appearances in all competitions for the first-team and he directly contributed to 21 goals as well. He is currently valued at £1.62m by Transfermarkt.

While he missed a big part of the 2019/20 season due to the knee injury, he has picked up a good Whoscored rating of 7.25 in the current Premiership season.

So if he keeps those performances going and replicates his form from the 2018/19 campaign, he could find a space for himself in the Celtic first-team quickly.
