Speaking recently on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, Ewan Murray and Barry Glendenning discussed the rumours surrounding Leicester City’s interest in Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

Since arriving at Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain, in what was originally a loan deal before the Hoops made it a £9.27 million permanent one in 2018, Edouard has gone on to be a roaring success for the club, scoring 63 goals and providing 31 assists in 127 appearances for the club.

As a result of his fine form in Scotland, there have been rumours of interest in the 22-year-old this summer, with former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers said to be extremely keen on bringing the player he signed for Celtic to the club he currently manages, Leicester City.

On the subject of the Foxes’ link with the striker, Barry Glendenning brought up the rumours on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast stating:

“There is talk this morning of him hooking up with Brendan Rodgers again at Leicester.”

To which Murray replied:

“Yeah, that’s valid. Brendan Rodgers has retained admiration for him since he left Celtic and went to Leicester, that’s a bit of an open secret. I mean, there are a few unknowns. The key one is whether Edouard wants to stay here and be involved in 10 in a row and regards that as a big deal, or whether he now thinks – he’s been here three years in total, including a loan – that he’s done enough in Scotland, and he is worthy of a move by now, and also what level he thinks he can play at.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would appear that Murray believes the reported interest from Leicester in Edouard is indeed valid, which, from a Celtic perspective, is rather worrying news, particularly as the club are looking to go on and secure their 10th Scottish Premiership title in a row this season.

And, signifying his importance to the side, the striker has already got three league goals to his name this season, scoring a hat-trick in Celtic’s 5-1 opening day victory over Hamilton Academical.
