The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has been discussing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Portuguese attacker Pedro Neto.

Wolves’ 20-year-old forward arrived at Molineux last summer from Serie A outfit Lazio alongside Bruno Jordao as the pair both penned five-year contracts (per Wolves).

Over the 2019/20 season, Neto made 44 appearances for the Old Gold in all competitions in which he bagged five goals and five assists (per Transfermarkt).

Jordao, however, made only four appearances for Wolves’ first team in all competitions in which he scored one goal.

In the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed Neto and revealed how highly rated he is by Wolves.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “I remember when he scored the goal that never was at Anfield and he was giving it the big ‘un to the Kop and he was shushing them.

“He’s got something about him, he has. He’s a fearless young lad. People at Wolves are very excited about him.

“I’m so impressed with the four forwards they’ve managed to pull together. You look at where they need to improve the squad this season [and it’s] not in the forward areas.

“[Adama] Traore, [Diogo] Jota, [Daniel] Podence and Neto. [Neto is] exceptional and I can’t wait to see how he progresses next season.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Spiers had to say, Neto is clearly highly rated by ‘people at Wolves’ and the journalist himself is excited to see how he progresses.

Do you believe that Pedro Neto will be a star player for Wolves eventually?

No, he's not that good

Yes, he will be quality

Yes, he will be quality

However, when considering Neto’s average rating this season, it would seem that the journalist is perhaps being a little generous with his praise of the Portuguese forward.

Over his 29 Premier League appearances in the most recent campaign, Neto only delivered a 6.45/10 average rating, which made him Wolves’ sixth-worst performing player (per WhoScored).

However, only nine of those 29 appearances were starts, so perhaps the fact that 20 were from the bench affected his ratings.
