Wolves Fancast pundit Jordan Russell has recently aired some criticism of Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Diogo Jota.

During the most recent Premier League season, the 23-year-old forward bagged seven goals and one assist in 34 league matches (per WhoScored).

That record is noticeably weaker than what the Portuguese winger managed during the 2018/19 term, having bagged nine goals and five assists in 33 outings that season (per WhoScored).

So, in the latest episode of the Wolves Fancast, the pundits were asked to decide their most underwhelming player of the season and Russell opted for Jota.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “The most underwhelming player, for me, this season’s been Diogo Jota. I said it early on this season, he’s my favourite Wolves player in this current squad.

“By all means, he’s not the best player, but he’s just so tenacious, you can see a real hunger and desire and, for me, he epitomises everything I want to see in a footballer playing for Wolves.

“I think especially post-lockdown, it’s like he’s forgotten [how] to kick a ball. He is very hot and cold but post-lockdown, I think it was mentioned on the last pod where it was like Space Jam where they took his powers away from him.

“It is like that, literally every time he gets the ball now, he doesn’t look up, his head’s down – he’s running straight. He doesn’t look up and he trips over the ball and runs too far.

“For me, [it’s] been [a] very underwhelming season for Jota, especially [with] the pedestal I put him on.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the pundit had to say, he clearly believes that Jota has not lived up to the form that he has previously shown he is capable of.

Would you say that Diogo Jota was underwhelming in the most recent season?

Yes, not been good enough

Yes, not been good enough

No, he was still good

No, he was still good

When considering that during the 2018/19 Premier League term Jota picked up a 6.89/10 average rating and during the most recent one, he delivered a 6.76/10 (per WhoScored), it is clear to see that the attacker’s performances have declined.

Hopefully, for Russell and other Wolves supporters, the Portuguese forward can find his best form again next season.
