The Express and Star journalist Joe Edwards has been discussing what he thinks Wolverhampton Wanderers will do in the next few weeks of the transfer window.

On Tuesday night, the Old Gold’s 2019/20 campaign came to an end after they lost 1-0 against Sevilla in the quarter-final of the Europa League (per BBC).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit now have just under a month to prepare for the 2020/21 season as the Premier League is due to begin on 12th September (per Premier League).

So, in the latest episode of the Express and Star’s E&S Wolves Podcast, Edwards aired what he thinks will happen in the next few weeks of the transfer window.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “I think these next few weeks could be a bit quieter. The general consensus seems to be that September is where it’s going to really kick into gear.

“I know some clubs have been doing bits here and there – [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg’s gone to Tottenham, of course; Chelsea, after their transfer ban, have already gone out and made a couple of signings.

“I think the market’s going to open up a bit more in September. I’d imagine Wolves will dip into Europe again as they have done and obviously use the links that they have.

“You know, [Jorge] Mendes and things like that, it’s worked for them in the past and they’d be willing to go down that road again.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging from what Edwards had to say, it seems that supporters can expect a quiet couple of weeks from Premier League clubs on the transfer front.

However, there has already been £289.5m spent by next season’s Premier League clubs this summer, although Chelsea alone have contributed to £83.7m of that amount (per Transfermarkt).

So, a hefty amount has already been forked out in the current window, although it remains to be seen if the next couple of weeks will be quiet on the transfer front.

Having successfully sourced the likes of established first-teamers Raul Jimenez, Leander Dendoncker and Diogo Jota from the European market in recent seasons, it could be argued that Wolves fans should not be too concerned about their club’s transfer activity in the current window.
