Hammers insider @ExWHUemployee has provided an update regarding the instalments West Ham United are paying for Sebastien Haller.
Last summer, the Hammers secured the services of the French striker from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record deal worth up to £45m (per BBC).
However, it was revealed in early July that the Irons were facing an investigation from FIFA for defaulting on a £5.4m instalment owed to Frankfurt for Haller’s transfer (per The Times).
So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed the instalment which has not yet been paid to the Bundesliga outfit.
He said: “Haller’s instalments have not been paid to his previous club and we’re behind on the payments.
“So, it’s getting to the point where his [former] club, Frankfurt, are getting really annoyed with us, which is another club that we’ve now annoyed in the world of football by not paying our instalments.
“[It is] because we don’t have the money. We’re trying to prolong the payments to them.
“So, I think the [Albian] Ajeti sale will possibly finance that instalment now rather than go into new players.”
TIF Thoughts…
Seemingly, the West Ham insider believes that the Irons will use the £4.5m from the sale of Ajeti to Celtic to pay for an instalment owed to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Was it a mistake for West Ham to sign Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt?
Yes, we shouldn't have
No, it was worth it
In early July, it was understood by Kicker, as cited by Sport Witness, that the Irons still owed Frankfurt €24m (£21.6m) for Haller.
So, this may be an issue that rolls on for some time with the hefty amount the club has left to pay for the Frenchman.
