Football.London journalists Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest recently took part in a Facebook Live video, in which they discussed the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and answered questions from fans regarding transfers and the upcoming 2020/21 season.

One topic of discussion on the video was where Spurs should look to strengthen next in the current transfer window, with the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolves seemingly close to completion. Both Guest and Gold seem to agree that Jose Mourinho’s side should look to bring in a striker as their next priority during the video.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

First, Guest suggests that:

“Another striker, that’s got to be the next priority after the right-back. [We’ve] said it before but it was absolutely criminal not to replace Fernando Llorente last year. When Harry Kane got injured on New Year’s Day at Southampton, there was just no one to replace him. Yes, [Heung-min] Son and Lucas [Moura] can play through the middle, but they are not out-and-out strikers. As good as Harry Kane is, he’s just not going to be able to play all these games.”

Gold later adds his thoughts on Spurs’ failure to replace Llorente last season, saying:

“Criminal is the word, I don’t know if we can press charges against those involved but quite frankly not replacing Llorente, it was mad, it caused so many problems.”

TIF Thoughts…

Spurs’ lack of attacking options certainly caused problems for Jose Mourinho last season, with the Portuguese manager bemoaning his lack of a natural striker following the injury to Kane, so it certainly can be argued that the Lilywhites failed to replace Llorente, with the Spanish forward joining Napoli on a free transfer last summer.

Do you agree that signing a striker should be Spurs' next priority?

No

Both journalists certainly feel that bringing in another forward this summer should be a priority for Spurs, so it will be interesting to see who the North London club manage to bring in.
