On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks and Lee McQueen were joined by football finance expert Kieran Maguire to discuss the finances at Tottenham Hotspur.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Tottenham Hotspur – Behind the Finances’ – was Spurs’ profits in recent seasons, with Maguire suggesting that, despite the current viral outbreak, things are still looking very good financially for the North London club in the future.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what he had to say about Spurs’ profits on the podcast:

“I did a valuation exercise of all the Premier League clubs in May and that valued Spurs, and [I] appreciate you don’t get too many trophies, as the number one in terms of [the] financial value of clubs in the Premier League.

“So, looking at it in the cold, hard light of day, they run a really smart organisation from a financial perspective but you don’t go to watch Spurs to see balance sheet achievements.

“So, if I was assessing them, I think they’ve turned things around over the course of the decade.

“Spurs were just about breaking even at the start of the decade and a lot of that was due to profits on player sales and they’ve gone on and made substantial advances since then, from a financial point of view, to be probably the most consistently profitable club in the Premier League.”

TIF Thoughts…

As Maguire suggests, although Spurs fans have not had a lot to celebrate in recent years, with their last trophy coming in 2008 when they won the League Cup, financially, things are looking very good for the North London club.

The expert suggests that ENIC has helped to really turn Spurs’ finances around over the past decade, which is evidenced by them being recently named as the eighth-richest team in the world (per Football Deloitte Money League).

Hopefully, for Spurs fans, the club can turn these consistent profits into consistent success on the pitch in the next few seasons.
