Journalist Alasdair Gold has recently been talking about Tottenham Hotspur’s chase of South Korean central defender Kim Min-jae.

Gold talked about many issues surrounding Spurs in the latest video on his YouTube channel. He delivered insight into the situation of multiple Tottenham transfer targets and one target that he focused on was Kim and whether Spurs could sign him or not.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the central defender this summer and Sky Sports had reported that it would take a ‘big offer’ for Beijing Guoan to consider selling the defender in the summer transfer window.

When talking about Kim, Gold said that Guoan don’t want to sell the 23-year-old South Korean and that is the ‘real issue’ in this potential deal.

The journalist said: “Kim Min-jae is the obvious one. South Korean centre-back, 23 years old, very talented young man. My colleague Sungmo Lee, who works for Goal Korea, he has raved about him to me, told me [that] he’s the greatest defensive talent of the generation. The issue is that the Beijing side he plays for really don’t want to let him go.

Do you think Spurs will sign Kim this summer?

Yes, we will

Yes, we will

I don't think so

I don't think so

“I think he’s got a little injury at the moment, so he hasn’t played the last couple of games, but that’s the real issue there – they don’t really want to let him go. I’m sure he would love to link up with Son [Heung-min] at Spurs.”

TIF Thoughts…

Spurs’ Argentine defender Juan Foyth has been linked with a move to Leeds United recently, while Jan Vertonghen has left the club after his contract expired. So because of that, the club may feel the need to add a central defender to their ranks this summer.

In the 2019 season, Kim was a regular for Guoan and made 34 appearances in all competitions. He is valued at only £1.35m by Transfermarkt and since he is still 23, he may still improve in the future as he is young. So this can be a low-risk signing for Spurs and it would be intriguing to see if this works out or not.
