On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Jason McGovern have been reviewing Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign, with a focus on key results across the season, the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and appointment of Jose Mourinho, and the best and worst performers for the Lilywhites.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘2019/20 Season Review & Awards‘, was Jose Mourinho’s team selection throughout the season. Of course, the Portuguese manager had a number of injuries to contend with before the season break, with Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Moussa Sissoko all sidelined with long-term injuries. However, McQueen seems to feel as if the former Chelsea boss should have been more consistent with his starting line-ups, despite the poor run of form shortly before the season suspension.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what he had to say about the issue on the podcast: (1:00:02)

“Consistently changing the lineup; the [Manchester] City lineup, the [Aston] Villa lineup, the Chelsea lineup, the Wolves lineup, the Burnley lineup, every single one of [those] line-ups in [the] last five results before the lockdown were a different setup, a different formation, a different lineup, different players playing in different positions. It’s not consistent. That has got to be part of the problem. It’s ridiculous.”

TIF Thoughts…

Although we understand McQueen’s frustrations, Mourinho did have plenty of injury concerns earlier in the season, so we understand why he may have been chopping and changing the side so much.

Do you think Mourinho changing the line-up so much was the reason for Spurs' poor results?

Yes

No

Once the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss had a fully fit squad to choose from following the Premier League’s restart, Spurs’ results dramatically improved, so perhaps we will see a more consistent line-up next season, provided Mourinho’s key players can stay fit.
