Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the club’s reported interest in Benfica right-back Tomas Tavares.
According to reports by The Mirror’s Sunday newspaper, The Sunday People, as per Football.London (via The Spurs Web), the Lilywhites are interested in signing the 19-year-old this summer, although they could face competition from Serie A side Atalanta.
It is unsurprising to hear that the North London club are targeting a right-back this summer, with Kyle Walker-Peters having already departed the club, whilst Serge Aurier continues to be linked with a move to AC Milan.
Last season in the Liga NOS, Tavares made just 12 appearances, averaging a fairly solid 6.71 rating for his performances (per WhoScored), which is significantly lower than the 7.06 rating averaged by Aurier in the Premier League, suggesting that the Benfica man might be a downgrade on the Ivorian.
