On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Antony Costa and Lucy Jones have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, including the 3-0 friendly win against Ipswich Town last weekend and some of the transfer business that they are hoping to see the North London club do before the end of the window.

One topic of conversation on the recent podcast, which was titled ‘Hojbjerg at Home‘, was the future of Dele Alli in the Spurs side. The 24-year-old has struggled to match the form he showed for the Lilywhites in his first few seasons with the club in recent campaigns; with the former MK Dons man managing eight goals and four assists in 25 Premier League appearances last season (per WhoScored).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what McQueen had to say about the England international on the podcast:

“He’s 24 years old, he is almost one of our own in that sense. He will break all midfield records. I think this guy is special. Sometimes [he doesn’t] run the game, but I’m telling you now, this guy is absolute gold, and we need to keep him, 100%.”

TIF Thoughts…

McQueen seems to have a lot of faith that Alli will rediscover his best form for Spurs and that the club shouldn’t even consider selling him. The midfielder did see a huge improvement in his form following the appointment of Jose Mourinho in November, as he contributed four goals and three assists in just five games but was unable to maintain that, as he managed just three goals and a single assist across the rest of the season (per WhoScored).

Do you think Alli will get back to his best next season?

It will be interesting to see if Mourinho can get the best out of the midfielder during the 2020/21 campaign and if not, perhaps we may see the £57.6 million rated ace depart Spurs in the not too distant future.
