Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a right-back over the summer transfer window.

With Kyle Walker being sold to Manchester City for £47.43 million back in 2017, Kieran Trippier being sold to Atletico Madrid for £19.8 million in 2019, and, more recently, Kyle Walker-Peters being sold to Southampton for £11.97 million, Tottenham have been left with only Serge Aurier as a right-back option in their first-team squad.

However, with Aurier also being linked with a move to AC Milan this summer, much has been spoken about Spurs’ hunt for a new player in the position.

Norwich City’s Max Aarons was reported to be a target of the north London club in the past, however, those rumours seem to have quietened as the transfer window has progressed.

Ornstein lifted the lid on the current situation regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of a new right-back this summer.

He said: “Right-back is a position that Tottenham have been looking to strengthen in for quite some time. We saw them lose the likes of Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, and more recently, Kyle Walker-Peters, without properly replacing them.

“This time I think they will. To what extent, we’ll have to wait and see. They’ve been offered loads of options, considered loads of options. We’ve heard names like Max Aarons, also when Tottenham signed Ryan Sessegnon for the left side from Fulham, I think they considered his brother, Steven Sessegnon, for the right side too, but I don’t think those sorts of names are at the top of their list at the moment.

“I think Jose Mourinho will have a preference. From what I hear, there’s an experienced player he likes, [who is] maybe a bit of a stop-gap in what’s going to be a difficult transfer market. We don’t know whether that will be to Daniel Levy’s liking, because he tends to go for younger players, but I’m sure that one will be discussed. I don’t know who it is, unfortunately, but what I do think is, yes, they will sign a right-back.”

Would you rather Spurs signed a new right-back this summer, or simply kept Aurier?

TIF Thoughts…

So, it would appear that, while Ornstein is currently unsure about exactly who Tottenham’s main target in the right-back position is this summer, they do have someone in mind who could come in, and, in addition to this, he also believes that the club will indeed go on to make a signing in the position this summer.
