On the latest episode of the TIFO Football Podcast, Joe Devine, Alex Stewart and Seb Stafford-Bloor have been discussing some ‘sensible transfers’ that Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Burnley should look to do in the summer transfer window.

One player suggested by Stafford-Bloor on the podcast as a potential Spurs target this summer was Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi. The 23-year-old joined the Eredivisie side last summer from San Lorenzo for £6.3 million (per Transfermarkt) and has impressed in his first season with the club; averaging a 7.07 rating across his 16 appearances in the Dutch top-flight (per WhoScored).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what the Athletic journalist had to say about the Argentinian centre-back on the podcast:

“I’m taking Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord. Bit of a wildcard; I love an Argentinian defender, just because you know at some point he’s got a little bit of malice in him, which is always nice. Quite a rugged player, but [a] skilful one too. Eredivisie players are always a bit of a lottery when they come over to England, but again, we’re trying to work within a budget.

“We’re not looking at £45/50 million players. We’re looking at a project essentially, and I think he looks a little bit like a [Jose] Mourinho player, but with the added bonus of being [Jan] ‘Vertonghen-like’ and someone who is comfortable with the ball at his feet – and also you’ve got to replace that left-footed dynamic.”

TIF Thoughts…

If Spurs were to sign Senesi and he proved to be anything like Vertonghen, who made 315 appearances for the North London club after signing from Ajax in 2012, then he would surely prove to be a very good signing indeed. The 23-year-old is currently valued at £12.15 million by Transfermarkt, suggesting that he wouldn’t be too expensive of an option for the Lilywhites this summer.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs do register an official interest in Senesi anytime soon.
