Alasdair Gold, the Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football.London, has been discussing the reports linking the club with a move for the Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon during a recent video on his YouTube channel

Reguilon spent last season on loan at Sevilla with whom he won the UEFA Europa League. He made 31 appearances in La Liga last season, contributing two goals and providing his teammates with four assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

The Lilywhites have been linked with the 23-year-old this week (as per Football.london) and here is what Gold had to say on the matter.

“Very talented guy. Now the thing with him, Spurs really like him as well. He’s another one that they’re very much admirers of, but the thing with Spurs [is] they’re not really looking for a left-back this summer. [Jose] Mourinho’s feeling is that they’ve got Ben Davies, they’ve got [Ryan] Sessegnon, Dennis Cirkin they’re so impressed with and [Japhet] Tanganga who can all play at left-back – so they’re not really looking for one.

“However, if Reguilon is available for a bargain price, I think it might be one of those, a bit like Steven Bergwijn in January, that they just say, ‘we like this guy and if it’s a price that’s really doable, let’s just do it to secure him for the future.’ Keep an eye on it.”

TIF Thoughts…

It appears, based on Gold’s comments that Spurs are well stocked in the left-back position however, he didn’t rule out the possibility of the club making a move for the £22.5m-rated defender. The player’s average performance rating in the Spanish top-flight during the 2019/20 campaign was an impressive 7.10/10 according to WhoScored.com, which is superior to that of Ben Davies, who made 18 appearances in the Premier League last season.

As a result, it could be argued that bringing the Spaniard in would be an upgrade on Jose Mourinho’s current options.
