Journalist Alasdair Gold has recently made a claim about Max Aarons and Tottenham’s chase of the Norwich City defender.

Gold was recently talking about many issues surrounding Spurs in the latest video on his YouTube channel. One thing he focused on was the club’s right-back situation and the options that they might be looking at for that position. He went on to provide some detail about what Aarons could bring to Spurs.

Aarons has been linked with a move to Spurs in recent months. Football Insider had stated that the north London club have ‘laid the groundwork’ for a deal involving the Norwich man and that Aarons is a ‘top target’ for Spurs in their bid to address the ‘problem’ in the right-back position.

Gold talked about Spurs’ interest in Aarons and he believes that the Englishman would fit what Tottenham need right now.

He said: “All I’ve been told is that [Lille defender Zeki] Celik is not the priority. My gut would tell me Max Aarons [is], purely because of that homegrown issue.

Would Aarons be a good replacement for Aurier?

I don't think so

I don't think so

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

“If Serge Aurier were to leave for AC Milan, which AC Milan are pushing for and reportedly so is Aurier, then you replace him with a British player and that frees you up to bring in another foreign player. I’ve seen Aarons getting a bit of flak. He’s a very young guy, [his] first season in the Premier League, he is just going to be learning. One of the ticks against him is obviously his height, but I think he’s a guy that can be taught a lot. I think Spurs see that. I think he fits Spurs’ transfer profile perfectly.”

TIF Thoughts…

Aarons was a regular for the Canaries in the 2019/20 season and made 36 Premier League appearances for the club. He picked up one assist and earned a season rating of 6.55/10 (as per WhoScored).

He is only 20 and is valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt. So considering he is still young and with Serge Aurier being linked with a move to Milan, Aarons could replace him and get some first-team football if he replaces the Ivorian, given that Aurier was a regular in the 2019/20 campaign. It will be interesting to see how this deal may work out for Jose Mourinho’s side.
