In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold commented on a number of players linked to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, including AS Roma attacking midfielder, Nicolo Zaniolo.

Since making a £4.05 million move to Roma from Inter back in 2018, Zaniolo has gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising prospects in Italian football, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists over his 69 appearances for the club.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

Last season, the 21-year-old made 26 Serie A appearances for I Giallorossi, scoring six goals and providing two assists, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.87 – ranking him as the club’s joint-seventh-best performer in the league.

The Italian international also impressed in the Europa League, scoring two goals and providing two assists over his seven appearances in the competition, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.33.

These performances appear to have caught the eye of Tottenham, as it has been reported that Spurs have been ‘tracking’ the attacking midfielder over the course of the season.

However, speaking recently on a video posted to his YouTube channel, Gold claimed that he would be ‘stunned’ if Spurs managed to sign the 21-year-old this summer.

He said: “Zaniolo, he’s the other one that gets linked a lot, from Roma – 21-year-old, very talented, young Italy international. I think his issue is he’s had a cruciate ligament injury, he’s only come back in the last couple of weeks to go on the bench, I’d be stunned if he’s sold. I’m pretty sure I heard that Roma have got new money in now and they’ve made him one of their ‘do not sell’ players and that he’s very much seen as one for the future.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, despite the club’s links with the £40.5 million-rated player, it would appear as if Gold does not believe that a move from Spurs for Zaniolo looks likely to happen this summer, which, from a Spurs perspective, is rather disappointing news.
