Mark Douglas has been speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black & White Podcast, and he has been discussing many topics relating to Newcastle United, including Henry Mauriss.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The American’s supposed interest in buying the Toon was first reported on back in April and has lingered on in the background as Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium attempted to buy the Toon.

There were even reports that Mauriss made a bid for the club in June and then when the Staveley bid was withdrawn, the American believed he was in pole position to buy Newcastle.

However, more recently, reports emerged claiming that Mike Ashley was growing frustrated with Mauriss, and it is clear that Douglas knows very little about the American or his bid.

He said: “I think the problem with Mauriss is I’ve tried to stand it up [his interest in buying Newcastle], I think we’ve all tried to stand it up and nothing’s come.

“I think usually you get to know from one source or another whether it’s serious; it’s just been mysterious because there’s been nobody able to tell you it’s rubbish and nobody able to tell you whether it’s true or not and nobody able to really give you any information about Mauriss.

“There’s no independent verification of how wealthy he is, there’s nothing, and I find that really strange that you just can’t find out any information about him.”

Has this surprised you?

No, Mauriss was never a real contender

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that Douglas’ opinion of Mauriss doesn’t exactly bode well for those hoping to see the end of Mike Ashley’s reign as Newcastle owner.

Mauriss looked like he had a clear run to buy Newcastle after Staveley’s group pulled out, but he has not followed it up.

There have been reports that he is going to be branded a time-waster in a statement by Ashley, so we will have to see what happens there.

However, it is strange that no one has really been able to find out anything about Mauriss and talk of any deal from him has gone quiet in recent weeks, so maybe he will not be buying the Toon.
