Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith about all things related to Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

One of the topics discussed was the failed takeover of the Toon by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium, but the Shields Gazette reporter also spoke on other matters, including the future of Matty Longstaff, whose contract has expired with the Toon, but he has still not decided on his future yet.

Here is what Kennedy had to say about Longstaff:

“It’s still a very tender situation, I wish I could give more detail than that, but I am led to believe that there still hasn’t been a decision taken from the player on what his next move might be.

“I hope it’s Newcastle United because I think it would be an amazing talent to lose, he’s a young lad with his whole career ahead of him, he bleeds black & white, he loves the club.

“It would be a real shame to see him pull on a shirt of another club, and we’ve seen that all too many times before.”

So, as of yet, the 20-year-old has still not decided where he wants to play his football next season.

Do you think Longstaff will stay at Newcastle?

No, he will be moving somewhere else

TIF Thoughts…

Longstaff has an offer from Udinese of £30,000 per week, while the Toon have made him an offer of £20,000 per week.

There is also reported interest from the likes of West Ham United and Southampton – so Longstaff has options, but remains a Magpies player for now.

However, during the restart of the 2019/20 season, the 20-year-old only featured for 27 league minutes, so whether that could that convince him to move away remains to be seen, but for now, Newcastle will just have to hope that he decides to stay on Tyneside.
