Steve Wraith recently posted a tweet in which he explains that he expects to see a statement from Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium ‘when a deal’s announced’ for the takeover of Newcastle United or if the group’s bid to purchase the Toon ‘completely collapses’.
As per Sky Sports, the group did reportedly end its interest in taking over the club at the end of July, after ‘papers regarding the proposed takeover were lodged with the Premier League in April and were still being scrutinised’ months later.
However, since then, some reports have claimed that the group has not actually pulled out of the deal, but instead, they are just ‘taking a different approach to pressurising the Premier League’.
There may be something to those claims, considering that just a day before Sky Sports reported that the group was pulling out of the deal, The Athletic published an article quoting Staveley as saying: “I don’t want to give up.”
More recently, Sky Sports has shared an update which makes it appear as though it is possible that this takeover can still go through, claiming that the Premier League has said that the ‘door is still open’ for the consortium to resume talks with the English top flight about this takeover.
With all of that in mind, it may be fair to say that there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Toon at present, and after Wraith recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the likelihood of the consortium issuing a new statement to update the club’s fans on the current status of its takeover bid, plenty of Newcastle supporters replied to his tweet.
People asking do i expect a statement from the bidders. Yes i do. Do i expect a statement yes i do. When will it be? When a deals announced or if the deal completely collapses. Do i hope it is soon? Yes because like everyone else i want this resolved either way #nufc pic.twitter.com/ALWLz5nCyL

Some Newcastle fans were optimistic about the likelihood that the consortium will provide Toon fans with a statement sooner or later.
Too right, fingers crossed ?

Some Toon supporters replied to this tweet to declare that they ‘need’ to receive an update from the group.

Meanwhile, other Newcastle fans replied to this post to share that they believe that the takeover is off.
Should Newcastle United fans give up on this takeover?
YES, IT'S OVER
NO WAY
Unfortunately I think people should accept the deal is off. Move on and support the team for coming season. Like all fans I’d love for it to happen. But let’s me real and its gone on long enough and it will probably just go quiet without statements or anything else

It’s unclear exactly what the future holds for Newcastle United, however, it is understandable why some Toon fans would like the would-be owners to release a statement updating the club’s supporters on where they currently stand with regards to this takeover.
