A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from the Chronicle’s Mark Douglas that contains a link to an article by his colleague Ciaran Kelly regarding the Toon’s failed takeover and the Premier League.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

In Kelly’s article, he claims that the Independent Football Ombudsman has now advised the Premier League to make a statement on the collapsed takeover of Newcastle United.

The piece states that the IFO has given its recommendation to the PL to comment on why Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew their offer to buy Newcastle.

Kelly’s piece also claims that The Chronicle tried to contact the Premier League again but were told that the PL would not be commenting.

This post from Douglas sharing the news to Twitter drew the attention of these Toon fans, who feel that the pressure on the Premier League is growing.

Do you expect this to make the PL say something?

Yes, they have to now

Yes, they have to now

No, they will hope it goes away

No, they will hope it goes away

Many MPs, as well as Prime Minister Boris Johnson have asked the PL to clarify what happened with the takeover.

A petition with over 100,000 signatures has also been launched to get an independent investigation into what happened, so the pressure is certainly mounting.

Douglas’ post continued to draw the attention of these Newcastle fans.

The consortium withdrew its offer to buy Newcastle on 30th July, and Staveley instantly blamed the Premier League and some of its member clubs as talks came to a halt.

In response to these accusations, the PL has continued to say nothing and allowed the pressure to build on them in the meantime.

We feel that someone should come out and explain what happened because the fans should have the right to know the reasons behind the collapse to what was a potentially transformative deal for the club and the city.
