Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of a potential move from the club for Arsenal centre-back, Rob Holding.

According to reports by the Daily Mail (via Chronicle Live), Newcastle are ‘keen’ to sign the defender on a loan deal, with it also being said that Holding is ‘no longer required’ by the North London club following their impending £27 million signing of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

After this report was relayed on Twitter by The Chronicle, fans of Newcastle flocked to have their say on the matter, with many calling for the club to spend some money, rather than focusing on loan signings, while others stated that the Toon do not need any more centre-backs.

Since arriving at Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers in what was a £2.7 million deal back in 2016, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 78 appearances for the Gunners, chipping in with two goals along the way.

However, last season, the centre-back managed to make just eight appearances in the Premier League, over which he averaged a disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.55 – ranking him as the club’s ninth-worst player.

As a result of this, it is no wonder to see why many Newcastle fans would rather their club not make a move for the £8.55 million-rated man this summer, even if it is just on a loan deal.

As these Newcastle fans correctly point out, centre-back is indeed a position in which Newcastle are already well-stocked, with Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune all in the first team squad at present.

As such, in our opinion, Newcastle should indeed turn their attention to other areas of the pitch which need strengthening, as many of these fans have suggested.
