A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from their club that revealed that Dwight Gayle had gone off injured in the Toon’s first pre-season friendly against Crewe Alexandra.
The 29-year-old started the second half of Newcastle’s game and provided an assist for Christian Atsu but was then forced off the field in the 63rd minute.
However, it is unclear how serious the injury is, but it has drawn a reaction from these Toon fans who can’t believe what has happened to Gayle.
Are you surprised Gayle went off injured?
No, sums up our luck

Steve Bruce had claimed that Gayle was in top condition and that because of that, signing a striker might not need to be a priority for the Toon.
Gayle then lasted for less than 20 minutes, and considering he was the Toon’s joint-second top goalscorer last season with four league goals; you would think that might make Newcastle look for a striker, these Toon fans are certainly hoping that they will.
Right can we sign a striker now Bruce 🙂

Hahaha sorry but you can’t make it up.
“gayle back looking fitter then ever”
18 minutes into a pre season game against weak opposition and he’s already injured.
SIGN A STRIKER ?

Gayle had a strong restart for Newcastle as he bagged four goals in eight games, and Bruce sounded excited about having him this season, but if this injury is bad, then the Toon could be in trouble.
Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Callum Wilson and Josh King, so if the injury for the former Crystal Palace man is bad then maybe the Toon will step up their search for a striker.
They have a limited budget of £35m plus player sales, and considering between them their strikers managed just six league goals last season, you would think they should be looking to spend that money on a striker.
If Gayle’s injury is bad, then surely that money has to go on a striker, considering he scored four of those six goals from the club’s forwards last season.
