Many Newcastle United fans have been discussing the rumours linking the club with a move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Sky Sports recently reported that the Magpies and Wolves are interested in the Englishman. The report claims that Arsenal are looking to sell him and Maitland-Niles would cost a fee of £20 million. Meanwhile, Tottenham have ‘denied’ that they want to sign the player this summer.
This update was relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360. It caught the attention of many Toon fans, who made their opinions clear about this news.
Would be a great signing, but I’d rather spend 20M on a striker

Should Newcastle pay £20 million for Maitland-Niles?
Absolutely!
Not at all
Would be a very good signing, but I’d rather we used that money on a striker, Wilson in particular ?

Would definitely be a mint signing. But would prefer to bring in a decent centre forward, then sell unwanted players for the funds for Maitland-Niles

this would be an unreal signing, im on my knees

Maitland-Niles wasn’t exactly a regular for Arsenal in the 2019/20 season. He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the club’s first team. He got two assists in 20 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last term (as per Transfermarkt).
Some other Newcastle fans also gave their opinion about this news update.
Please sign him @NUFC .I’m on my knees

All of these Newcastle fans have positive words to say about Maitland-Niles, even though some believe that the club should sign a striker before anything else.
Maitland-Niles does offer the benefit of having plenty of Premier League experience. He is also versatile enough to play in multiple positions and while he mainly played at right-back in the 2019/20 season, he also played at left-back and across the midfield throughout the most recent campaign.
And at the age of 22, he may still have the potential to improve as a player. So if Newcastle can afford to pay the £20 million fee, Maitland-Niles could be a pretty handy signing for them.
