Mark Douglas has been speaking on a recent episode of the Everything is Black and White Podcast, and he has been discussing the failed takeover of Newcastle United and what might happen next.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Chronicle reporter spent a lot of time on the failed takeover by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium and what they are thinking and what they have made of the pressure that has been applied to the Premier League.

This is what Douglas had to say about the pressure from fans, MPs and the Prime Minister and what that might or might not mean for any potential takeover of Newcastle.

He said: “Pressure is what’s been asked for by the consortium.

“I think that the Newcastle fans have responded fantastically to that in terms of emailing politicians who they feel can maybe have an impact in trying to get the Premier League to come out and talk.

“There remains some form of dialogue between all the different parties, but at the moment, it’s not meaningful dialogue in that the bid’s still withdrawn.

“There isn’t necessarily, at the moment, a pathway to actually get [the] takeover done.

“Obviously, at the moment, we just do not know how the pressure is going to transfer into the takeover actually being done.

“It’s a positive that all of the parties are still involved and are still in dialogue, but I don’t have the answer, and I don’t think the consortium have the answer either as to how that converts necessarily into the Premier League actually doing the business and getting this takeover ratified.”

It seems then that no one knows what this pressure on the Premier League could lead to, but at the moment, Douglas does not see how this leads to a takeover happening.

Do you think the pressure will make a difference?

Yes, it will do something?

Yes, it will do something?

No, nothing will happen

No, nothing will happen

TIF Thoughts…

Since Staveley’s consortium withdrew their bid to buy Newcastle on the 30th of July, there has been a petition set up by fans demanding an independent investigation into why the deal collapsed.

Many MPs and the PM Boris Johnson have also asked for the PL to clarify what happened because, as of yet, they have still not said anything.

There have been suggestions that the pressure mounting on the PL is having some sort of impact, but what that could end up as is unknown.

The fact that Douglas doesn’t even believe that the consortium know (2:27) what this pressure is going to achieve suggests that we have no hope either, and we will just have to see what happens.
